Our clients imagined a nice big family style front porch, warm and inviting, a safe place for the kids to play, and to entertain friends and family.
The wide stair opens the front of the house to the new oak door and says “welcome” and from the beaded board wood ceiling the recessed lights bathe the porch in a warm glow.
We designed and built this new front porch in the Lakeshore Historic District in Evanston Illinois. The long block is filled with wide front porches that invite neighbors to sit out and enjoy each others company, only one street away from Lake Michigan’s evening summer breeze.
The inward tapering stucco columns bring a visual gravity to the porch, tugging it to the ground and yet letting the roof float above it . The portico roof over the front stair projects slightly forward from the porch roof to define the entrance over the stair to this circa 1910 home.
